How To Cancel An eBay Order

So you want to know how to cancel an eBay order.

Maybe you realized you made a regrettable financial decision, saw the light and decided to cancel it. Omg, maybe you’re even planning on putting the refunded money into your savings.

Or more likely (coming from a human who also buys things), you realized you accidentally selected the wrong size. Or saw it’s not gonna arrive in time for when you need it.

Either way. You need your money back. Let’s get it.

How to cancel an eBay order you’ve placed in the last hour

If you made the purchase within the last hour and the seller hasn’t shipped your order (if they have - wow - speedy service) you can start a cancellation request. This is where you ask the seller to cancel the order from their end.

Here’s how:

1. Head to your purchase history

2. Find the order you want to cancel

3. Select the More actions drop-down menu and choose Cancel this order

4. Select Submit

eBay will then send your request to the seller. The seller will have 3 calendar days to accept or decline the cancellation, but it’s beneficial for them to cancel so they don’t receive a negative review.

If the seller accepts, eBay will send you a confirmation of cancellation to your email and eBay Messages.

How to cancel an eBay order you made more than an hour ago

If it's been more than an hour since your purchase, you’ll need to contact the seller and ask them to cancel it for you.

Here's how:

1. Head to your purchase history

2. Find the order you want to cancel

3. Select the More actions drop-down menu and choose Contact seller

4. Choose Request to cancel this order, then Contact the seller.

5. Explain to the seller why you need to cancel, and select Send.

FYI: You won’t be able to cancel an order if you’ve already requested a return. So wait until you find out if your seller has shipped the item before deciding whether to request a return or cancel the item.

How to cancel an order that’s already been shipped

If the seller does decline your cancellation request, or if they have  already shipped your item, you'll need to wait until you receive the item and then start a return request.

This is how you do it:

1. Find the item in your purchase history

2. Select Return this item

3. Select your reason for return

4. Select Send

You’re done! eBay states that once your item has been returned or your order cancellation has been confirmed, your refund will be processed within 2 business days.

The money is sent to your original payment method and the money is usually available within an additional 3-5 business days.
